2 years of serving the people

On the occasion of completing 2 years in office MP of Bengaluru south sat down with TV9 Kannada for an interview and discussed various issues concerning covid and governance.

Talking about 2 years in office he said that he was grateful to the people of his constituency for having chosen him and said that from the day he got elected as an MP his single point agenda was to work for the people of the constituency and champion the cause of his party by carrying forward the ideology of the BJP.

Underscoring the irreplaceable contribution of Sri Ananth Kumar, Mr. Surya said that he could never think of replacing him but could only carry forward his ideas and implement his vision.

Speaking about his elevation as BJYM chief he said that the traditional stereotypes around his party being a Hindi heartland party was wrong and his appointment was proof that anyone could rise up the ranks if they were eligible and the region did not matter.

When asked about his role as the acting president of BJYM in the recently concluded state elections, he opined that as the leader of the youth wing he worked with Karyakarthas of the party at the grass-root level and strengthened the organization and during his visit to Bengal prior to the second wave he stood with the workers amidst tear gas and lathis bearing the tyranny unleashed by the TMC government. He highlighted that Yuva morcha was the backbone of the BJP and was critical in spreading the ideology of the party among the youth.

Talking about the culture of political violence in Bengal Mr. Surya said that the main target of political violence were the BJYM workers and everyone was aware of how workers were being killed by hanging them to trees and lamp posts.

Responding to the accusations of BJP rallies witnessing a large number of people congregating and as a result leading to covid spike he said that when the election commission had called for a meeting of all parties during the Bihar elections to discuss campaigning during the pandemic all the parties flatly refused to do digital campaign except the BJP and now their hypocrisy stands exposed when they accuse the BJP of doing massive rallies.

Responding to the allegations leveled by the Congress party about the MPs being inactive during Covid he said that all these allegations were baseless and the numbers speak for themselves about the work done by the MPs.

He addressed the allegations one by one and rebutted them to the last point. They are as follows:

Central government’s bias towards the state: the opposition alleged that Karnataka was given step-motherly treatment by the Modi government in spite of sending 25 MPs, answering this allegation Mr. Surya said the production capacity of oxygen in the country was 900 metric tons but the requirement during the second wave rose up to 9000 metric tons, an astronomical number but still the government didn’t blame anyone but chose to increase the production capacity which was 5000 metric tons in August 2020 to 9446 in May this year, the government ensured not only the production part was taken care of but also provided logistical support in supplying it through oxygen express.

The government also imported oxygen from other countries around the world and made sure there was ample supply of oxygen; Karnataka so far had received 4 oxygen expresses each carrying 120 metric tons of oxygen said the MP.

On remdesivir he said Karnataka received 5lakh and odd vials and the next consignment 4lakh vials would arrive in next few days said the MP and thanked Sri Sadananda Gowda for his efforts. He added that the remdesivir that Karnataka received was 11% of the total produce. Not only this the total medical seats in Karnataka saw an increase of 36% and PG saw an increase of 56% during the Modi regime, the MP said the government realized just producing medicine was not enough but increasing the number of doctors was also need of the hour and hence the government had made all possible efforts to achieve this.

Taking the propaganda about his expose of the bed blocking scam he said that this was nothing short of a murder when people were dying due to the shortage of beds and it was unpardonable that people were hoarding beds and making a profit out of it.  The opposition on the other hand instead of behaving responsibly was indulging in malicious propaganda against him and the state government.

Elaborating further about the work done by the state and central government in procuring vaccines he said during the first wave since there was no vaccination available it resulted in the deaths of a lot of frontline workers, but before the second wave started the government anticipated the need to vaccinate the frontline workers and through the PM cares fund was able to raise funds and allocate it to produce 66million doses of vaccine and vaccinate the frontline workers. Similarly, India went from importing PPE kits and masks to domestically producing them and exporting them within a year.

Talking about the vaccination program he underscored the point that during once in a century pandemic no developing nation has ever developed its own indigenous vaccine and India was the only country to administer 18.5 crore vaccines and this was a record in itself.

In September this year production capacity of the vaccines would be ramped up to 10 crore doses a month, out of which Karnataka would get 1.1crore vaccines.

While all this was being done by the central government to safe guard the citizens of the country the Congress party chose to fear monger about the vaccines and create vaccine hesitancy among the people by calling it a “BJP vaccine”.

First, the opposition asked the government to give permission to the states to procure the vaccines themselves but when the government obliged they started blaming the central government for not procuring enough vaccines.

MP said that no amount of work was enough for such a populous country like India and in spite of all this they were trying their best. At his level, he was both contributing to the party and the constituency by starting BJYM cares doctor’s helpline and tying up with Akshaya Patra Foundation for distributing food packets and grocery kits to the needy.

He said that his honest effort would definitely reach people and his efforts to serve the people would be noticed.

When asked to elaborate about his contributions and work for Bengaluru south he said he had a clear road map for Bengaluru and as the first step he had worked with the government to bring suburban rail and got the next stage of the metro sanctioned apart from this a separate law for Bengaluru had been enacted by the state government and his next goal was to make amends to this law through the state government and smoothen the functioning of the BBMP. He concluded the interview by thanking the people of Bengaluru south for giving him a chance to serve them.
