Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh handed over the contract of 83 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas fighters to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Ministry of Defence handed over Tejas fighters to HAL at Aero India show in Bengaluru.

This was a big boost to the government of India's ' Make in India' initiative and the Prime Minister's dream of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. 'Tejas' is a light combat Aircraft designed by Aeronautical development agency (ADA), in collaboration with Aircraft research and design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics limited (HAL), for the Indian Air force and Indian Navy.

The Aero India biennial air show that is held in Bengaluru sees the attendance of various aircrafts of which LCA Tejas was the center of attraction this year. The three day air show began on February 3rd and culminated on February 5th. On Thursday February 4th, Mr. Tejasvi Surya who visited the Aero India show was invited to take a sortie in the aircraft. Before the sortie Mr. Tejasvi Surya was briefed about the specifics of the aircraft by the Tejas team. The team thanked Mr. Surya for flying in the aircraft and said it was a “Tejasvi Tejas” moment. Mr. Surya thanked Mr.Satish Reddy and Mr. Giridhar the Chief of ADA.

Mr. Surya also thanked the Prime Minister for placing his trust in the Indian scientific community and placing an order of 48,000 crores and additionally thanked the scientists for their commitment in building a world class and state of the art fighter Aircraft for the armed forces. He also said that the respect towards the men and women in uniform multiplied a hundred notches after riding the aircraft. The honorable MP also thanked the armed forces on behalf of a grateful nation for their yeoman service.

The sortie congratulated the Union government for its recent procurement order worth Rs 48,000 crore from Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This order will give a significant boost to the Bengaluru Aerospace and defence sector. With the right blend of technology and production capability, Bengaluru is poised to be on the world stage in the aerospace and defence sector , since most much of the development and manufacture of will happen indigenously it will help MSMEs and Indian companies which in turn will boost the prospects of local manufacturers said Mr. Surya.

Speaking to the media the honorable MP said the aircraft was a beacon of scientific excellence and capabilities of India and once again expressed his gratitude towards the Prime Minister for making this possible through his visionary leadership, and called LCA Tejas a gift from Bengaluru. He said Tejas represented New India in the realest sense as the project took 20years of consistent hard work by the team of developers to arrive at this stage, much like the youth of India who toil hard to achieve success, He added that it was an experience of a lifetime to fly in the fighter aircraft. The work DRDO in developing a Supersonic Cruz missile system is also commendable and will bring repute to the country added Mr.Surya.
